My Pregnancy Routine and Tips

And for those mamas out there who’ve been pregnant you know there’s a lot to think about: nutrition, comfort, and overall health to name a few.  I’ve taken it up a notch with my twin pregnancy; here’s what I do:

Throughout the day:

  • Drink at least 1 gallon of water before dinner (the tea you’ll see below counts toward this goal!)
  • Consume at least 100g of protein (I make sure to add protein into every meal and snack)
  • Wear a pregnancy support belt right away (I use Belly Bandit Upsie Belly, I’ve worn others but this is what I find most supportive and most convenient)
  • I don’t carry Aspen up the stairs anymore

  • 20mg liquid Floradix (this is an iron supplement)

  • ½-1 teaspoon of Natural Calm Magnesium powder in warm water (I drink the raspberry flavor and it tastes like tea!)
    – This helps calm any contractions
    – It’s also a natural stool softener to counteract my increased iron intake
  • 2 dropperfulls of Yellow dock tincture in 2oz of water (this is another iron supplement)
  • Breakfast to ensure vitamins don’t bother my stomach (for example: 3 scrambled eggs and cheese)
  • Probiotic (for digestion)
  • DHA/Fish Oil (for baby’s brain development)
  • Calcium (for my bones)
  • 3 Beef liver capsules (another iron supplement)
  • Prenatal vitamin

  • 1 quart of special tea
    –  I steep .5oz of oatstraw and .5oz of melisa overnight and drink It throughout the day (it’s to calm contractions)
  • 2 droppersfull of skullcap tincture in 2oz water (to calm contractions)

  • 20mg Floradix (liquid iron supplement)

  • Beef liver capsules

As needed:

  • Epsom salt bath (2 cups of salts)
  • Additional magnesium calms the uterus

  • The Snoogle pillow helps me to sleep on my side by keeping me from rolling over.  If I find myself waking up on my back I get cramps and dull aches.  I liked the Boppy sleep pillow at the beginning of my pregnancy
  • Belly oil (if I itch I use a recipe I made with 10 parts coconut oil, 1 part lavender oil, 1 part rose hips oil, 1 part peppermint oil.  If I don’t itch I use “Belli Elasticity belly oil”)

  • Drink 8oz of water as I wake up to uriniate throughout the night

Every week-2 weeks:

  • Pregnancy chiropractor

  • Don’t use your abs to sit up straight, lean to the side and push your body up
  • Proper posture!

If you have any advice, tips, or questions please share!

      1. Absolutely! I would recommend a Spectra S1 (can be cordless which is a huge plus). Also, the willow pump is amazing too.

    1. Yes! Hospital grade pump is the only way to! You need to pump both sides at the same time. I also toool fenPhinne Greek everyday. I also found lactation cookies worked as well!

    2. I used the spectra with my last baby. She was a preemie so I had the medela hospital grade pump at my disposal. Let me tell you, that pump HURT and I didn’t get any milk out for me. I used my spectra and was producing immediately. I pumped every 2 hours during the day and every 3 at night while she was in Nicu. I ended up with an over supply for a while and have donated to 6 babies so far! With my first baby I used the medela PISA and I was a “just enough-er”. I love that the spectra is a closed system, very portable, quiet, and comfortable. I drank a ton of water. A gallon throughout the day and would chug a yeti cup after every pump/ breastfeed- including at night. I still can’t sleep through the night without drinking water.

  1. How is the taste of the liquid iron supplements? My OB suggested I try these in addition to my prescribed iron supplement post-ceserean but I’m concerned I won’t be able to tolerate the taste well.

  2. Thank you for sharing! This is a good reads Any pregnancy skincare tips? With my first I was glowing but not so much with my second. *sigh

  3. I’m pregnant with twins and also due in June. Can you post a pic of you wearing the belly band? I don’t know if I am wearing it right! I’m also worried it would hurt the babies.

  4. I just found out I’m pregnant with twins! At what point did you start incorporating more magnesium into your daily routine? I’m almost 9 weeks and have a hard time getting enough water because I feel so nauseous. Any suggestions? Thank you for blogging about your pregnancy !

  5. What do you use to color/highlight your hair? Im worried about the chemicals and haven’t found a good safe brand

  6. You look amazing! I’m only 18 weeks with one and Im way bigger, lol. Q: Are you taking all of this extra iron because you have twins? How hot are your baths with the Epsom salts?

  7. Can I ask what your exercise routine is and dobyiu stretch morning and night? I’m in a lot of pain through placenta abs been told to take it easy but I’m an ex cross fit girl and feel I need to do more. Ps love you girl! Thanks for the blog! I think we are both close to 28 weeks!

  8. Hi Meghan, looking great…keep it up girlfriend! Quick question. I’m 20 weeks and having a hard time giving up caffeine especially my coffee. I tried vitacup per your suggestion, but noticed u have also given up caffeine. When and how did u do this?

  9. Hello! Thank you for sharing. Do you wear a belly band/any kind of support while sleeping? Or only during the day?

  10. What kind of prenatals do you take?! Trying to conceive and start a prenatal but there are so many choices?!

  11. Love this cream. The fact that it is unscented gives it 5 stars. Being pregnant and very sensitive to smells this cream was a lifesaver( coco butter made me puke) its very thick and creamy. Lasted a long time. Made my skin feel great.

  14. Hi Meghan! I am currently 21 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and will be delivering at MoBap in STL. My ob is fairly traditional but still open to my more holistic ideas. With my first I had spotting randomly throughout my pregnancy.. always brown so old blood. They prescribed progesterone to relax the uterus. With my second I have had the same spotting and they’ve prescribed progesterone again (my progesterone has been perfect the entire time) so I am looking for alternative ways to relax the uterus. I am very uncomfortable taking progesterone when its not needed for my actual progesterone level and feel foggy and down when I’m on it. I see here that you did a tea and magnesium. Could you tell me where you got the tea and where you got this regimen from? I’d be very interested to talk to them!

Thank you for sharing your journey,
